Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions new customers have, please call if we can help you further
Q: Can I try the wine before I buy it?
A: Unfortunately, it’s against the law to offer samples of our wines, however all our wines are 100% guaranteed so if you don’t like it we’ll give you your money back or start you up a new batch at no extra cost. We are able to suggest a wine that may be similar to one you already know and enjoy.
Q: How much wine will one kit make?
A: All our wine kits make 30-750ml bottles, with a little bit left over. If you’re making Sherry, Port or Ice wine, one kit makes 30-375ml bottles or 15-750ml bottles.
Q: Can I order less than 30 bottles of wine?
A: You must order 30 bottles, but many people find a group of friends to share a batch, or to try different types of wine. Besides, bottling with friends can be fun. We have a wireless Bluetooth speaker that you can connect with to play your own music. Is it a special occasion? Call and book a bottling party, it’s always more fun with friends.
Q: Do I have to make the wine?
A: When you purchase your wine kit, you need to add the yeast to get the fermentation started. It’s easy and we’re there to help. It takes about 10-15 minutes to order and start your wine. Then all you need to do is come back on bottling day and bottle your wine. We will show you what to do – it’s easy too. We have all the equipment you need, all you have to bring is your bottles, or you can buy them from us.
Q: What is included in the price of my wine kit?
A: Your purchase includes wine, corks, labels and shrink caps. Custom labelling is available for a nominal charge. Bottles are not included – bring your own or buy from us.
Q: How much will it cost to make wine at Wine Kitz?
A: Anywhere from $125.00 up to $250.00 We have a large variety of wines ranging from 4 week kits up to 5 month big barrel aged wines. If you sign up for our e-mail newsletter on the homepage you can get even better sale prices on select wine kits.
Q: How long does it take to bottle wine?
A: Depending on how fast you are and if you choose to use labels and shrink caps, bottling can take anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour.
Q: What is the best way to store my wine?
A: We recommend that you leave your bottles standing upright for the first week or two to let any gases escape. After that, lay the bottles on their sides to seal the corks. A cool environment with no temperature fluctuations is recommended. For those reasons, a closet is better than a garage in most cases.
Q: When can I drink my wine?
A: It’s your wine – so whenever you want! We do recommend that the wine ages for some time (1-2 months for whites, 3-6 months for reds). Our wines don’t have the same levels of sulphites (preservatives) as wines that will sit on store shelves, so the life of the wine is limited to approximately two years, but it will last longer if storing conditions are prime.
